My bushland idyll in the lovely mud brick home built by Charles and his family and friends, has given me an opportunity to return to photography as my first love, after finishing my manuscript for “From Bourbon Street to Bennetts Lane: A jazz journey”, which is now with Scholarly Publishing in Melbourne. One of the most enjoyable parts of my job involved working with the writers and accessing the different archives at the library, and locating documents and visual material which may illustrate and enhance understanding of the text. Every day had an ooh-aah moment.

These days I am lucky to be able to work from home, teaching online and my laptop goes everywhere with me. Living in the natural world also offers opportunities every day to see something new and extraordinary. It would be wonderful to be able to show that people can live in the bush, without having a negative impact on the land, and being off the grid with solar power, and capturing our own water, makes me feel that we are moving towards ‘treading lightly on the land’.
